Make our communities rail-safe

Schedule a rail safety presentation

Trains are rolling through Sonoma and Marin counties and safety is SMART’s top priority. SMART’s community outreach team provides free rail safety presentations for schools, groups, and organizations, in partnership with California Operation Lifesaver, the leading national rail safety education organization. Our goal is to build awareness in our schools and communities regarding safe practices near tracks and trains. It has been decades since the railroad tracks in Sonoma and Marin counties have been active, but the start of SMART rail service has reintroduced the need for rail safety education.

The 30-45 minute presentation introduces rail safety information tailored to specific school grades and community groups and covers topics such as trespass prevention, crossing safety, platform safety, and knowledge of railroad crossing signs and signals, and more.
